Higher Degrees

Higher Degrees

John Curtin Gallery, Bentley

28th July – 3rd September 2017

Curtin University’s postgraduate exhibition High Degrees showcases the work of both early- and mid-career Western Australian artists graduating from their PhDs.

Artists: Sheridan Coleman, Fiona Harman, Leonie Mansbridge, Melanie McKee, Elizabeth Pedler, Joanne Richardson, Kevin Robertson and Alex Spremberg.

Combing Google Maps in search of islands, Perth artist, writer and PhD candidate Sheridan Coleman collects on-screen views as miniature paintings, unearthing the beauty, absurdity, wonder and humour of digital geography. Cloistered in custome display cases and shelves, these paintings form an intimate collection that explores the cultural concept of landscape, roaming far and wide over a global picture as embedded with narrative and spectacle as with pixilation.
